Kōwhai Corporate Mediation

Our workplace mediation approach is grounded in restorative practice, which focuses on repairing relationships and fostering understanding rather than assigning blame. Restorative practice encourages open dialogue, allowing all parties to express their feelings and perspectives in a safe and supportive environment.

This approach not only resolves conflict but also strengthens team cohesion and promotes a culture of trust and respect.

Sam and Steph, our experienced mediators, have successfully utilised the restorative practice framework for over 10 years, helping organisations rebuild positive working relationships and create psychologically safe environments for their employees.

Our Process

01

Preparation

Our approach within the restorative practice framework involves a series of meetings with both the client and the employees involved to fully understand the situation from all perspectives. At this stage, or sometimes before, we meet with the organisation’s appointed representative to provide our recommendations on how the restorative process should proceed, and together we determine whether it is the most appropriate approach for the specific situation.

An essential part of restorative practice is preparing all participants involved. We take the time to thoroughly check what each party hopes to achieve, to explain the process including questions they will 0 and establish clear ground rules for the mediation. This preparation phase ensures that everyone has the opportunity to reflect and come into the mediation ready to engage constructively.

02

Mediation

Once everyone is prepared, a mediation date is set. The goal of the session is to give each person a chance to be heard and to begin the healing process. The session concludes with an agreement on the next steps, which is a vital component of the process, as is the ongoing monitoring of these steps. Before the session, we collaborate with the employees to decide who will monitor progress and how follow-up will be handled in the months after mediation. This responsibility can either be taken by the line manager or a Kōwhai Corporate mediator.

03

Reporating and Follow Up

Finally, the mediation process concludes with a comprehensive report, outlining the steps taken, the agreements reached, and suggested next steps, including follow up. This report ensures everyone is aligned and offers a clear path forward, ensuring long-term resolution and growth.
